Business Council Schedules Update on Comp Reforms: EAST [2013-10-18]

The research arm of the Business Council of New York State has scheduled an update on ongoingstate workers' compensation reforms that will feature New York State Workers' Compensation Board Executive Director Jeffrey Fenster.

In October 2012, the Business Council's Public Policy Institute of New York State reported on increasing costs and delays in savings from the 2007 reforms pushed through the New York Legislature by former Gov. Eliot Spitzer.

On Nov. 6, Fenster will brief the Policy Institute on the status of the reforms and ongoing efforts by SWCB to modernize its computer systems and reduce costs. A second reform package included in Gov. Andrew Cuomo's 2013-2014 budget will close the state's Reopened Case Fund to new claims on Jan. 1, 2014, and simplify SWCB assessments.

The meeting will be held from 10:30 a.m. to noon (EDT) Nov. 6 in the Second Floor Conference Room at 12 Corporate Woods Boulevard in Albany, N.Y.

The meeting notice and registration information is here.
