Former Letter Carrier Draws Probation in Comp Case:

A former U.S. Postal Service letter carrier from Syracuse, N.Y., was sentenced to five

years' probation and ordered to perform 100 hours of community service last week for working while collecting workers' compensation benefits.

The Syracuse Post-Standard reported that Thomas Dombroski, 54, pleaded guilty in June to defrauding the U.S. Postal Service and the U.S. Department of Labor out of $18,353 in benefits he collected for a shoulder injury that prevented him from working as a letter carrier in 2010 and 2011.

Federal prosecutors said that, while he was out of work, Dombroski installed roofs on two homes in Liverpool, N.Y. According to the charges, Dombroski operated Picture Perfect Contractors, which also performed chimney work at the homes.

Federal agents videotaped Dombroski repairing a porch door at home in North Syracuse, N.Y., carrying a ladder, unloading an air compressor from a trailer and repairing a roof, the Post-Standard reported.

Dombroski declined comment.
